Northeast Ohio warmly welcomed the Dancing Classrooms program to the community. In our first year we worked with ten schools, twenty-four classrooms, serving over 600 children.
Anecdotally school administrators and classroom teachers have correlated the Dancing Classrooms program with an improved attendance rate, improved focus and attention in the classroom leading to improved academics and testing, reduced behavioral management problems leading to more productive class time, and an increase in parental involvement at the school. Research studies have been completed on the program and the results support the mission of social development. Additional research has indicated that the program also has a positive impact on some of the variables leading to childhood obesity.
Beyond the ten week residency, Dancing Classrooms Northeast Ohio engages the entire community through the Colors of the Rainbow Team Match - a free event for the public. This event takes place at the Ohio Theatre in Playhouse Square and provides students, their families and the entire school's community the opportunity to be exposed to Northeast Ohio's renowned theater district but also support participating students as they represent their school utilizing their newfound abilities and level of confidence. Please visit our "Events" page for more information on the 2nd annual Team Match at the Ohio Theatre in May 2010.
